Training and Placement cell

Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Optometry & Visual Sciences - Training & Placement Cell has an important role to play in a student’s future and is an indispensable pillar of the Institute. This cell continuously strives to help students with relevant and conceptualized professional skills and guiding them towards a bright future and career all around the world with the values of – ‘Sincerity’, ‘Hard Work’ and ‘Ethics’. This is accomplished through building a strong partnership amongst Students, Alumni, Faculty-members and Recruiters.

Objective:

  • To organize campus interviews for B. Optom final year with Eye Hospitals and Optical Companies from all over India.
  • To assist students to develop/clarify their academic and career interests, and their short and long-term goals through individual counselling.
  • To maintain and update a database of students that can be shared with future employers/ recruitment agencies.
  • To maintain a database of companies and establish strategic links for campus recruitments.
  • To gather information about job openings and all relevant recruitment advertisements for circulation to Students.
  • To coordinate with companies to learn about their requirements and recruitment procedures.
  • To identify the needs and expectations of the companies and to assist them in recruiting most suitable candidates.
  • To organize pre-placement training/workshops/seminars for students.
  • To arrange periodic meetings with Human Resources Executives of companies in order to promote Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth and its Constituent Colleges / Institutions.
  • To collect feedback from employers where our students are selected.
  • To assist students for industrial / professional training that will enhance their future employability.
  • To assist employers to achieve their hiring goals.
  • To provide resources and activities to facilitate the career planning process.
  • To act as a link between students, alumni and the employment community.
  • To assist students in obtaining placement and career goal.
  • Collaborate with industry for live projects, research work, workshops or any academic alliance, industrial visit with reputed organizations.
  • To motivate students to aspire for higher studies and guiding them to take competitive exams (IACLE STE Exam).
  • To motivate students to develop technical knowledge, ethical and soft skills in terms of career planning and goal setting.
  • Aiming to place the maximum number of students through campus & off-campus interviews conducted by reputed companies/agencies.

Activities

Dr. D. Y. Patil institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences conduct Career advance program on entrepreneurship, placement in eye hospital and optical outlet for the 2nd, ,3rd and final year Optometry students for Learning the skills which is much needed for students. This session will be very useful to all students as current employment options are going to be discussed, and students can have a better direction in their career. This session is conducted is annually by guest speaker and the faculty members conduct the lectures.

International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) Student Trial Exam (STE)

Dr. D. Y. Patil institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences conduct Student Trial Exam each year. It is a standard knowledge level test which assesses students’ contact lens knowledge. We encourage all IACLE Educator Members to conduct an ‘STE’ for their third- and fourth-year students

Conducting the STE for your students is straightforward and streamlined. The STE is delivered on IACLETOP which provides:

A choice between the traditional 100 multiple-choice question (MCQ) exam or a reduced STE with 50 MCQs, providing more flexibility for educators and students.

Questions and answer options randomized, so each student gets an individual exam

The option to complete the STE via a smartphone app as well as on their computer

Online feedback for each student, either on the day or when the educator prefers

STE format

The exam questions are provided as multiple-choice questions and the responses include a correct answer plus three distractors

A range of these questions require the student to recognize/identify certain type of lens fit or eye condition in a colour photograph.

Two exam formats are available: 50 MCQs and 100 MCQs and members may choose their preferred format

Language formats available: English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Bahasa

IACLE Certificate Distribution

Dr. D. Y. Patil institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences conduct Campus interviews Annually for B. Optom final year with Eye Hospitals and Optical Companies from all over India.

Policy:

  • A student can apply to any number of companies, however after receiving a first offer, he /she would be out of placement processes.
  • Eligibility for placement process will be based on attendance and performance of individual student at academic and placement module.
  • Any communication from companies & vice-versa to the student will be routed through the Training & Placement Office.
  • Student must ensure to inform Training & Placement Office about the opting out of final placement process due to higher studies with name of institute or personal reasons.
  • The role of the Training and Placement Cell is of a facilitator and counsellor for placement related activities. Training and Placement cell would not guarantee any job/ placement to any student.

There is a lot of demand for the professionals from Optometry discipline all across the Globe. As Research has established that many graduates in Optometry have either got into lucrative jobs or have been in private practice, there are many who have joined academics and completion of their post graduate studies, Ph. D. also.

Programmes offered by Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences, Pune aim at creating able Optometrists who can complement with Ophthalmologists and help them diagnose and treat visual problems. Additionally, the institute caters to the goal of eradicating curable blindness by participating in the VISION 2025 programme by Government of India.
