Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences is a leading institute of optometry education. Started in 2005, it is one of the first colleges of Optometry to offer a UGC - recognized degree in the Optometric Science in India. It was the vision of Dr. P. D. Patil, President, DPU, actively supported by Dr. (Col)V. K. Madan, former Professor and HOD, Ophthalmology, who gave birth to the program.

Scope for Optometry is enormous in India and the world over. As per research, most of the alumni are clinical practitioners in a hospital set up or in private practice also many have entered into academia or fulltime research after completing their Masters in Optometry.

Programmes offered by Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences aim at creating able optometrists who can complement the roles of ophthalmologists and help them diagnose and treat visual problems. Subsequently, the institute caters to the goal of eradicating curable blindness by participating in the programme.
