Dr. D.Y Patil Institute of Optometry & Visual Sciences was established in 2005. The institution is ISO 9001 certified. A solid background in basic sciences and a though understanding of the principles of Visual Science is foundation of our Institute.

Programmes Offered

The Department offers 4yr Bachelor of clinical optometry course and 2yr master of clinical optometry course. The clinical programme of the institute covers general eye and vision care and optometric specialties. It provides students an opportunity to work with patients in primary vision care and variety of specialty services. The concluding part of the course also includes in-house specialty clinics and external experiences in the neighboring region as well as other parts of the country. The clinical work is done under the close supervision of our faculty experienced licensed optometrist and eye care specialists.

Department Infrastructure

The institute is well equipped with modern classrooms, library and laboratory with state of art instruments for imparting optometry skills. The strength of the institute lies in the highly qualified and experienced faculty. Around 60 % of the alumni are clinical practitioners while 40% are in academics and research. The in house clinical services offered are primary vision care, contact lenses, vision rehabilitation, binocular vision, pediatric vision care and ophthalmic prescription services and dispensing contact lenses. Students gain experience in all aspects of optometric practice and industry by working and learning in these clinics.
